I initially started yoga as a way to "get more flexible" after years as a group fitness instructor. What began as purely aesthetic began to quickly evolve into something much greater. As a new mom, I wanted to find ways to carve out peace in the midst of chaos. Yoga became the medium to learn to control my breath in an effort to calm myself and hopefully calm my surroundings.
When we moved to East Cobb in 2015, I longed for a place to just "be". There were so many external changes, I wanted a constant, a safe haven to be myself and process. From the first class, I knew Empower was my place. The sense of community was exactly what I had been seeking. Having only been the studio a couple months, I signed up for teacher training. I knew I wanted more: more community, more yoga, more personal growth.
After completing teacher training, I knew I didn't want to stop growing or become stagnant. I began teaching, again so happy to have a community of people who encouraged and guided me. Now, Empower is one of my entire family's favorite places to be. My kids Rhys (10), Fin (7) and Jameson Grace (5) love to attend kids classes and Rhys even attends a power class with me sometimes. I love the way my family is all growing together. I listen in on little moments when my kids use their breath to calm themselves down when they are upset and use movement to explore their emotions.
